Easter Crochet Chick Free Pattern

 

Measurements:

Size: approx. 9cm tall x 7cm wide

 

Materials:

- Yarn – Make and Create Super Soft DK Yarn
- 20g Sunset Yellow
- 10g Orange
- Small amount of Black 
- Hook – 3.5-4mm  
- Scissors 
- Toy Stuffing
- Yarn Needle

 

Notes: 

- Patterns written in UK Terms. 
- Pattern is worked in the round.

 

Abbreviations:

SS – Slip stitch
MR – Magic ring
DC – Double crochet
HTR – Half treble crochet
TR – Treble crochet
INC - 2 or more stitches in the same stitch
DC2TOG – Double crochet decrease stitch
( ) – Anything in ( ) work as many times as stated. 
STS – Number of stiches

 

Tension:

20 stitches x 20 rows (4 inch square) with the double crochet stitch

 

Pattern:

 

Chick

Start with a MR in sunset yellow
Round 1: 6dc into the ring, pull tight [6 sts]
Round 2: (dc inc) x 6 [12 sts]
Round 3: (dc, dc inc) x 6 [18 sts] 
Round 4: (2dc, dc inc) x 6 [24 sts] 
Round 5: (3dc, dc inc) x 6 [30 sts] 
Round 6: (4dc, dc inc) x 6 [36 sts]
Rounds 7 – 14: 36dc [36 sts]
Round 15: (4dc, dc2tog) x 6 [30 sts] 
Round 16: 30dc [30 sts]
Round 17: (3dc, dc2tog) x 6 [24 sts] 
Round 18: 24dc [24 sts]
Round 19: (2dc, dc2tog) x 6 [18 sts] 
Round 20: 18dc [18 sts]
Round 21: (dc, dc2tog) x 6 [12 sts] 
Round 22: 12dc [12 sts]
Firmly stuff your chick here.
Round 23: (dc2tog) x 6 [6 sts] 
Break yarn and leave a tail and sew hole up at top of chick’s head.

 

Chick’s Wings

Make x2 wings in sunset yellow

Round 1: Ch8, work in the 2nd chain from the hook, dc, 2htr, tr, 2htr, 3dc inc, now working along the other side of your chain, 2htr, tr, 2htr, dc, ss [15 sts]
Break yarn, leave a long tail for sewing onto your chick.

Chick’s Feet
Make x2 feet in orange start with a MR
Round 1: Ch1, 10htr into the ring, pull tight, ss [10 sts]
Round 2: Ch1, (tr, ss) in same stitch, (ss, tr, ss) in same stitch x 2, ss [9 sts]
Break yarn, leave a long tail for sewing onto your chick.

 

Assembly

Feet - Sew both feet onto bottom of your chick over rounds 1 – 4 next to each other with the toes facing out.
Wings – Sew wings onto either side of chick’s body over round 14 and 14 stitches apart.
Beak – Take a length of orange yarn and thread onto your needle, sew a beak onto your chick over round 13 and 3 stitches apart, repeat a few times to make your chicks beak stand out.
Eyes – Take a length of black yarn and thread onto your needle, sew some eyes onto your chick either side of your chick’s nose and just above in a V shape.
Chick’s Hair - Take a length of orange yarn and thread onto your needle, now add some tufts of hair onto the top of your chick’s head, repeat this a few times.
Break yarn and sew ends in.
