Materials You Need

1. Books: Choose a selection of books from her favourite authors and genres, or go for a selection of mystery, thriller, and romance for her to choose from depending on her mood.

2. Flowers: Fresh or faux, select a few different flowers to really make this bouquet pop. Roses, tulips, peonies, and carnations work well.

3. Greenery: Add some green foliage for a natural look and to fill in any gaps.

4. Cellophane: Wrap your books in cellophane to protect them (this step is optional although ideal for taping the sticks).

5. Wooden sticks: Wooden craft sticks or skewers (be careful with the sharp end) are needed to hold your books together in the bouquet and to give it shape.

6. Brown paper: To wrap your bouquet together. It's both elegant and timeless.

7. String: To tie off your bouquet at the bottom.

Steps to Create Your Book Bouquet

1. Select the Books:

Choose a few books that your Mum will love. You can go for her all-time favourites, books by her favourite author, a selection from her most-read genre, or a variety that you think she'll love.

2. Prepare the Flowers:

If using fresh flowers, trim the stems at angle to ensure they absorb water properly when transferred to a vase and remove any leaves that would be below the water line. If uing faux flowers, you can skip this step.

3. Arrange the Books:

Use the cellophane and wrap your books for their protection and to help stick them together. We recommend an inverted triangle shape for arranging, so bear that in mind when selecting your books - the perfect number would be three or six books.

Once wrapped, turn your books over and tape down your sticks across the back in order to hold them together. Do this horizontally per row and diagonally down the sides of your 'triangle' before popping the arrangement onto your brown paper. If you're unsure, our video tutorial above demonstrates this step clearly.

4. Arrange the Flowers:

Take your flower stems and tuck them behind your books, along the edges and in front of the first book, following the outline of your book arrangement. Mix in your greenery in any gaps.

5. Combine:

Gently roll and tuck the edges of your brown paper into the flowers and pull it tight around the bottom of the stems. Secure this with string or a ribbon underneath your arrangement.

6. Finishing Touches:

Nothing says 'I love you' more than a note or card that details how much they mean to you. Write your message and pop it into your finished book bouquet. You can even add a bookmark as an extra thoughtful gesture.

Tips for a Stunning Bouquet

 - Colour Coordination: Choose flowers that match or compliment the colours on the book covers. Alternatively, you could create an ombre effect using darker colours at the top of your bouquet and lighter colours at the bottom. For example, you could use red roses at the top, pink tulips at the bottom and white carnations at the bottom.

- Personal Touch: Add a handwritten note, photo of the two of you, or a small gift tucked among the flowers.

- Scented Blooms: If using fresh flowers, opt for fragrant varieties to add an aromatic element to the bouquet, such as . Alternatively, spritz your faux flowers with a nice scented diluted disinfectant. Not only will this leave a nice smell, it will help to ensure they are clean and free from dust.
