If you’re anything like us, there’s just something about the festive season that makes you want to transform your home with lots of decorations, lights, and, most importantly - the Christmas tree. But making your home into a festive winter wonderland can put a big dent in your wallet if you’re shopping for ready-made decorations.
That’s where our simple DIY Christmas decorations come in. The benefit of creating your own decorations is that they can be reused year after year. It’s also a fun, festive activity for the family that will generate lifelong memories.
So in this tutorial, we’ll teach you how to make your own star decorations which you can personalise to make them extra special.
Simply follow the steps below, and let’s get stuck in!
Supplies
You will need:
- - Wooden star
- - PVA glue
- - Small paint brush
- - Glitter
- - Red and green wooden letters
Step One
Before you start, decide what you’d like to spell out on your wooden star decoration. You could choose a simple ‘Merry Christmas’ as we did, or you might want to go for Christmas song lyrics or someone’s name.
Step Two
Once you’ve decided, position the red and green letters at the centre of your star, spelling out your chosen word or name.
Step Three
Then, lift each letter up one by one and paint the back of them with PVA glue. Press each letter back down in place on the star and repeat the process until all your letters are stuck in place. Leave to dry for a while before moving on to the next step.
Step Four
Now the glue has dried and your letters are stuck in place, spread an even line of PVA glue around the edge of the star, roughly a centimetre in width.
Step Five
It’s time to throw some glitter around! So take your glitter shaker and shake out the glitter all over the glue, making sure it’s all nicely covered.
Step Six
Finally, give the glitter a little press before shaking off the excess to reveal a perfectly glittery edge to your wooden star.
You’re all done! Your star can now be hung up as a Christmas decoration or wrapped up as a personalised gift to make someone’s Christmas day.
